Welcome to Salle Holyrood

Salle Holyrood is a community fencing club in Edinburgh. We welcome fencers from beginners to elite athletes, from the age of 8 upwards, and have an active community including juniors, seniors through to veterans. Each week there is a combination of learning and match-play as well as an active friendly community.

The club is a great environment for beginners who simply want to learn a new sport and get active, through to competitive fencers of all ages who want to compete and progress in the sport.

Our coaching team has a total of 50 years’ experience and includes British national team coaches and fencers. Club nights give opportunities to train alongside and spar with current and past members of the British and Scottish Cadet, Junior and Senior national teams, and we are working on new schemes to ensure that even our youngest fencers can take advantage of the experience and knowledge of their club mates.

Most importantly, we are proud of being a friendly, supportive and welcoming club that gives children and adults across Edinburgh equal access to this incredible sport.

Our background

The club was started in 2011 by highly respected coaches Sean Walton and Keith Cook as a pathway for young fencers moving on from plastic fencing. Their vision was to provide an environment and structure which bolstered confidence, encouraged healthy and physically active lives and developed participants skills for life, not just for fencing.

The club is now one of the largest and most successful clubs in Scotland, creating an environment of fun, development and learning for all our members. Whilst the club has a high proportion of junior fencers, it currently has members aged 8-68 competing at junior, senior and veterans level alongside participants simply enjoying learning a new skill and making new friends.

Swordmark Superclub

We are accredited by Scottish Fencing – one of only 2 clubs awarded Superclub Status in the first round of awards in December 2017. Swordmark is Scottish Fencing’s Club Accreditation scheme, which has been created to support clubs and empower them to master their chosen environment.
