Classes:
Development: For junior fencers, from age 8+, new to the sport or developing their skills in metal fencing (e.g. moving from plastic fencing classes).
Pathway: for junior fencers who have progressed after several years of fencing and have developed their technical skills/are taking part in competition.
Performance: Junior/Senior fencers competing at national and international level.
Adult Beginners: Over 18s who are complete beginners or returning to the sport after an extensive break. All protective equipment provided. These run term time and can be accessed on a term-time basis or with club membership.
Our coaches:
The club is nothing without the amazing work of our coaches, both paid and voluntary. They are the guiding force of the club and without them we simply wouldn’t be here.
We are exceptionally fortunate to have a wide and varied group of coaches all of whom add a huge amount of experience and enthusiasm. All our coaches are PVG checked, have first aid and child protection training and are all listed on the British Fencing Coaches Register.
Coaching support at competitions:
With so many of our fencers regularly taking part in competitions around the UK, starting this season, our coaches will provide support at the competitions that are most important to our members. This includes support before, during and after competitions, helping althetes from pre-event planning and mindset, even warm ups, tactical advice, fight feedback to post event analysis and lessons learned.
Individual lessons Can be arranged with coaches and is a private agreement with them. Please email or call them to discuss your requirements.
KEITH COOK
Keith is co-founder of Salle Holyrood and has been coaching for over 15 years. He has a British Fencing Level 3 Coaching Qualification, Level 3 Certificate in Mentoring and is a GB Coach. Keith runs Fencing Fun, plastic fencing.

SEAN WALTON
Sean is co-founder of Salle Holyrood and has been coaching for over 25 years. Sean has a Level 5 International Fencing Master’s Diploma. He has coached numerous British champions, Commonwealth medalists and GB team members.

PAUL STANBRIDGE
Paul Stanbridge is a Level 2 Coach. Paul started fencing as a University student and is now an active participant of the senior and veterans fencing scene. Paul runs our adult beginners’ classes.

MHAIRI MCLAUGHLIN
Mhairi has been fencing at Salle Holyrood since the age of 12. She is a GB Senior Internationalist and board member of Scottish Fencing, the sport’s governing body.
Mhairi holds her Level 2 coaching qualification.
JAN SAMULSKI
Jan also joined the club at a young age, having moved from Poland with his family. Jan is a level 2 coach and holds a sports coaching degree.

JAIMIE COOK
Jaimie is the current British Senior National Champion. He is part of the GB Senior Team and spends a lot of time travelling the world!
Jaimie is a level 2 qualified coach, currently studying sports coaching and development at Edinburgh College and also running Fencing Fun classes in the city.
